CITU organises Roadside Vendors protest demonstration

CITU-Vendors protestMangalore: A protest (Dharana Satyagraha) conducted by CITU activists, to urge proper provision for road-side small scale vendors was held in front of Mangalore City Corporation office on Thursday (May 19) morning at 10am at Lalbagh in city, seeking a decent livelihood for these commoners. The meeting was inaugurated and addressed by Vasanth Achary.
CITU-Vendors protestHe stated that the roadside stall keepers and vendors formed an indivisible part of common people’s life, providing them with essential materials at cheap rates.

CITU-Vendors protestThe sellers are unorganized workers and maintain poor families. They should be provided with proper arrangements by MCC to carry on their small trades. But in the context of a clean city, they are being removed by MCC in a lorry called Tiger mercilessly causing thousands of rupees losses to vendors by city officials and policemen. This should end forthwith, he said.

CITU-Vendors protestThe speaker made demands to stop seizure operations by ‘Tiger’ vehicle, and make suitable alternate arrangements in a proper area for traders to carry on their regular vocation. Their losses should be immediately compensated. A meeting should be called quickly between CITU leaders and MCC officials to end oppression and make arrangements to accommodate roadside vendors within city.
CITU-Vendors protestMuneer Katipalla J Balakrishna Shetty, Corporator Jayanthi, Imtiyaz, as also office bearers Sunil Kumar Bajal (Hon. President), B.M Hasan (Executive chief), Mohd. Mustafa (Genl. Secretary) and A M Ataullah Kudroli (treasurer) among others were presnt during the demonstration.
