Mangalore : Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa distributed the loans to the fisher women at the special felicitation programme organized by the State BJP Meenugara Sangha held at Town Hall on April 16, Saturday.
Delivering the introductory speech on the occasion, Ramachandra Baikampady, president of KFDC said that there areas many as 80 lakhs fisher women in the state. Although there is fisheries movement present in the state, still the technical problems confronting and causing the huge loss to the fishermen and women folks. He urged the state government to take necessary action against to protect the river and ask the big industries to avoid throwing waste which harm the fishes.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, CM said that it was pleasure seeing around 2432 fishermen coming from Mulky, Ullala and Someshwar under one roof thorugh the programme.
Through this programme the Vijaya Bank will give around 50,000 loans to the fishermen at 3 percent interest is a good initiative for the welfare of Fisher folk families.
He also said that he keep hope in the fisherwomen to take loan for the benefits and return the loan with the interest in the given time and also can once again if necessary. Fishing is a prime business in the coastal region and it is happy to know that the fishermen are using the artificial breeding culture of prowns in 8,000 hectare of water.
The state government has also increased the fund for the fishermen for three times in this three years. The state government has provided around 25,000 houses for the fisher women in the state and in two years all the fishermen will be provided with the houses, he said.
CM also said that the infrastructure work at Malpe worth Rs 57 crore in the third phase. He also assured the fisherwomen to give the financial assistant of Rs 50 crore to them and therefore must discuss the matter with the leader and give the proposal to the government.
He also urged the fishermen to provide good education to the children of fishermen. If necessary he will increase the loan from 50,000 to Rs 75,000 he added.
Saritha Bengre handed over the memorandum to CM on behalf of all the fisher women. Yogin Karkera received the document on behalf all the beneficiaries.
Dr V S Acharya, state higher education minister, Mangalore south MLA and deputy speaker of assembly N Yogish Bhat, District in charge minister Krishna J Palemar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC, B Nagaraj Shetty, chairman of Coastal Development Authority, Mayor Praveen Anchan, Anwar Manipady, Chandrahas Ullalm, Nithin Kumar, Sreekar Prabhu and others were present.
During the occasion, SC Naik Gokarna and Vasant Naik Maskeri from Uttara Kannada, Madhavayya and M Roopaksh on behalf of Pre university lecturers Association handed over the memorandum to the CM for the increase in Pay Scale.
