Mangaluru : The city has been going through tough times in the past few days as there is severe drinking water shortage. However, the District Administration has been taking all possible measures to ensure that people are met with drinking water needs. Water is being supplied to Suratkal, Ullal and Bantwal with the help of tankers, said MCL Ivan D’souza.
Ivan D’Souza, addressing the media at his office in the MCC premises on Monday said, “The water level in the Thumbe Dam has dropped to 4.7 feet and will be enough for only another three days; however, the water can last for another nine days if supplied once in three days.”
Speaking further, he said that the problem could have been avoided but lack of water management led to the problem. He informed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had already submitted a memorandum to PM Modi for sanctioning a grant of Rs 12,272 crore for dealing with drought in the state.
Though several districts have been declared drought-hit, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu do not come under this list. However, the CM should declare DK too as drought-hit and provide funds to tackle the situation, he said.
