Mangalore : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the state’s second Regional Science Centre at Pilikula in the city on Oct 1, Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, CM said that state government has already sent a proposal to the central government to set up sub-regional science centres in all the districts of the state. The centre is is in addition to the 10 sub-regional science centres planned to set up at district levels.
CM said that the aim of establishing the science centres is to create scientific temper among students and general public on matter related to science and avoid superstitious belief.
CM also thanked the central government for providing financial assistance to set up a regional science centre in Pilikula. Further the state government will complete the work on a 3D planetarium in two years at the cost of Rs 24.50 crore. He also urged the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shripad Yasso Naik, to support the cause.
Minister S.R. Patil informed that the state government is setting up a ‘Knowledge center’ in Mysore with an estimated cost of Rs 17 crores.
Pilikula architect and MLA JR Lobo delivered the key note address.
District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Moiudeen Bawa, MLC Ganesh Karnik, MLC Ivan D’souza, former minister Vijay Kumar Shetty and others were present on the dais.
