Mumbai : Veteran actor and Bollywood’s favourite comedian Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri, better known by his stage name, Jagdeep, breathed his last today in Mumbai. He was 81.
Jagdeep passed away at his residence at 8:40 pm on July 8 due to age-related issues.
Jagdeep will be laid to rest tomorrow at Shia Kabristan in Mumbai.
Jagdeep had been a part of several big Bollywood films through the 70s and the 80s and even through the 90s. He has been a part of more than 400 films in his career. He was known for his impeccable comic timing and electric screen presence.
He played the role of Soorma Bhopali in Sholay (1975), and went on to direct a film of the same name, Soorma Bhopali in 1988. He also played the titular role in the film. Apart from that, he was seen in films like Andaz Apna Apna, Brahmachari, Naagin, to name a few.
Jagdeep was born on March 29, 1939. He is survived by his sons Javed Jaffrey and Naved Jaffrey.
