Mangaluru: Congress officials are now pacifying Dakshina Kannada district youth Congress president, Mithun Rai after denying him a ticket from Mulky-Moodbidri assembly constituency. The denial came as a disappointment to Rai as he was projected as a prospective candidate for a really long time.
MLAs, J R Lobo and Mohiuddin Bava, explained to Rai why he could not be given party ticket this time. Besides them, All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary, Vishnunathan, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary, U B Venkatesh, Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee president, Harish Kumar, KPCC spokesperson, A C Vinayaraj, secretary, Navin D’Souza, and a few other leaders visited him on Tuesday April 24.
He has been assured that the party will provide him with opportunities in the future. Leaders told him that Congress has faith in his abilities. Vishnunathan has requested Rai to nevertheless provide his unconditional support for the party’s election campaign.
Mithun Rai was visibly absent at election-related programmes once he was denied a ticket. MLA, Abhayachandra Jain, from Moodbidri constituency was persuaded by party members to contest the polls instead of Rai, even though he was unwilling to do so.
In the spirit of solidarity, office bearers of Dakshina Kannada District Youth Congress Committee threatened with resignation from their posts to express their dissent towards the injustice against their leader Mithun Rai.
