Mangaluru: BJP on Wednesday opposed the proposed visit of Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to the city on February 25 to attend a ‘communal harmony rally’, saying it will lead to political unrest in Dakshina Kannada district.
District BJP President Sanjeeva Mathandoor also announced the party’s support to a bandh called by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Hindu Jagrane Vedike and several other organisations on February 25 opposing Vijayan’s visit.
He said the district had always witnessed political harmony and there was always a “healthy rivalry” among the opposition parties during elections.
He alleged the CPI-M heading the ruling LDF in Kerala was behind the killing of members of parties that held different political views.
The Kerala CM was responsible for the current “volatile political situation” existing there, Mathandoor charged. He also said they were holding a rally here on February 24 to mark their protest.
