Hebri: During a visit to Hebri Police station near Udupi to present a cheque of Rs3 lakh to the bereaved family of late Sadashiva Gowda murdered by Maoists brutally last week, as a compensatory relief and to offer his condolences to his Gowda relatives, DGP-IGP Shankar M. Bidri warned in a statement to Maoists that they would not prosper in their violent movements, as the police are bent upon hunting them out, to surrender and come to the right path, and join the mainstream of life.
He told them that the Government had a good package to wean them away form violent struggle based on theoretical and theatrical activities.
The police realised that Maoists only had killed Sadashiva Gowda and owned the crime. It was not correct to label him as a ‘police informer’ as he was a good citizen of this state, and acted against illegal activities of a few anti-social elements going by an ideology.
The police sought civilian Cooperation in Western ghats and thick forest areas for information about Maoist fighters. It is better that the young rebels in Maoist fold now, surrendered to the police with arms, and returned to civilised lives, Bidri declared.
Bidri assued local villagers that the social conditions were good in the state, without exploitation and suppression, or caste differences, hence no room for conflicts here.
All people have the same opportunities. The local citizens can live without fear about police domination, he added.
Bidri gave the cheque of Rs 3lakh to the deceased’s mother and consoled her.
Several police officers were present, including Alok Kumar and Labhu Ram, Pratap Reddy and others.
SP Dr. Ravikumar Welcomed, and ASP Venkateshappa thanked the gathering.
Other measures adopted by state Police were. 100 local youths from Naxal- affected areas to join police forces, with tribal boys given priority.
Rs2,050 as monthly pension to Sadashiva Gowda’s mother as interest from a deposit in post office. Another Rs10,000 in cash as Bidri’s gift to her.
The local people asked to upgrade Hebri Police station. They made a few more demands for safety and land rights.
