Mangalore : A record number of developmental programmes worth Rs 1150 crores and above have been implemented in Dakshina Kannada district during the past two and a half years, said District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar.
Delivering the Republic Day address after hoisting the National Tri-colour at the Republic Day celebrations held at the Nehru Maidan in the city on January 26, Wednesday morning, he said a sum of Rs 5.04 crore has been spent towards improving the drinking water supply situation in the district, out of the Rs 40.82 crore sanctioned for the year 2010-2011.
The Minister informed that a sum of Rs 20.54 crore had been sanctioned under the Grameen Sadak Yojana and Rs 32.3 crore under Karnataka Development Corporation for the development of 74 km length of roads in the district.
He also said that, altogether 8 building constructions out of 13 including 7 first grade colleges, 4 pre university colleges, 2 technical institutions have been completed and remaining are in the state of progress and the amount of Rs 3 crore has been spent on these.
The amount of Rs 180 crore has been sanctioned for the master plan development scheme of Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple at Cabinet Meeting Hall. The building of 9 storey building will be constructed for the devotees and the amount of Rs 12 crore has been spent.
The Minister also read out a report on the various schemes and developmental programmes initiated in the district during the year 2010-2011.
Many achievers who have brought laurels to their city as well as to the district were honoured for their distinctive achievements.
City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, SP Subramanyeshwar Rao, K Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, President, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, N Yogish Bhat, Dy. Speaker and Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC and Vice President, NRI Committee, Subodh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, B Nagaraj Shetty, chairman of Coastal Development Authority, MCC Commissioner Dr K N Vijayaprakash, were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, the Minister received a guard of honour in an open jeep. Students from various schools as well as the police forces presented an attractive march-past and entertainment programmes on the occasion.
Total fourteen teams including KSRP, Civil Police, Traffic, Home guards, NCC, NCC Air Wing Senior, NCC Army Junior, NCC Air Wing junior, NCC Naval junior, Guides, Road Safety Patrol and others performed the march past accompanied with Police Bands. The DK district police department under the guidance of SP Dr A Subramanyeshwara Rao, presented the demonstration of police activities during Anti Terrorist fights on the occasion.
