Sullia: The DK district, especially hill areas in Puttur and Sullia had copious rains accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds, to cool the oven-hot region that needed drinking water for urban and rural areas alike.
The flashy bolts in DK took one life, that of Girija(35) in Sullia taluk on Sunday evening when it looked like a monsoon-hit-area. Nellyadi had icicles in rains.
Puttur and Belthangady taluks had good rains too, while showers fell in Uppinangady and Hire bandadi.
A lightning flash that hit Subrahmanya on Western ghats at 4PM caused burning of electric devices in many homes in town.
Sullia had its share of heavy showers with strong breeze uprooting trees on to roads, disconnecting traffic. A house in Jayanagar there was damaged. At Kollamogru a live wire fell on ground as a tree was uprooted and fell upon wires causing power cut.
In Kalasa, Hornadu, and Kudremukh ghat regions, severe rains came down for an hour at 2-30PM with thunder bolts. It was Sunday and people had no difficulty in facing torrential rains, and in later attending to temple services in the area as usual in the evening.
