Mangalore : The city of Mangalore experienced light showers while other places in DK and Udupi districts  quite heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning on April 26, Friday evening. The lighting even claimed the life of one person at Belthangady, while in other places several houses were damaged as trees got uprooted. The lightning also damaged electrical equipment in several houses.

At the same time the showers provided the much needed respite from the scorching heat. It was a pleasant surprise to many who even did not mind getting drenched in the rain.

Dharnappa Shetty (47) from Madatadka Kombelu from Kavalamudoor village in Beltangady taluk died of lightening on Friday evening. Lightning struck when he was working in the courtyard of his home Strong winds uprooted trees while  roof tiles of some houses were also damaged. Lightning damaged wiring of a house belonging to Honnamma Nalike in Aliyoor.

A mother and her child fell unconscious due to electric shocks at Nettar near Bellare in Sullia.
