Mangalore : Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Harish Kumar said that as given in the media report, the new swimming pool will not be constructed in Vanitha Vana Park, but it will be constricted near to it at the cost of Rs 3 crore.
He was speaking at ‘Meet the Press’ programme organized by the DK Working Journalists Association and Mangalore Press Club on Dec 20, Thursday. He also said that the media do not give factual information to the public sometimes, when the officials fails to give the detailed information to the media.
Speaking on the plastic ban, he said that the plastic ban concept was effectively started a month ago and till will be implement all over the city very soon in the coming days. He said that the owners of plastic manufacturing industries has applied for a stay at High Court, so far three heard has been held but they did not get the stay order. The department is also waiting for the court verdict and we will respect to its judgment.
When the media representative questioned about the use of plastic as the new DC took charge, Harish Kumar said that Former DC N S Channappa Gowda directed for plastic ban and it will be continued by new DC N Prakash. At any cost we will do it effectively, he said. The MCC has made 5 teams of officials to check the plastic ban concept. Plastic has no equivalent alternative. The plastic industrialist will not suffer loss, since they can sell plastic any other place outside Mangalore Taluk.
MCC is also dealing to recycle the plastic to oil. The plant will come to Mangalore in six months at the cost of Rs 3 crore. Ten tons of plastic may get collected daily for recycling, he added. Thumbe vented dam will be constructed at the height of 12 meters, it doesn’t mean that all the water will be stores, but it can only store water upto seven meters. MCC will not increase the dam size more since it needs to acquire 300 acres of land and corporation fund is not
sufficient for it. The dam construction will be completed by December 2013, he said.
In three month the road leading from Mannagudda to Chitra Theatre will be concretized giving importance to pipeline shifting, footpath and cycle path facility at the cost of Rs 11.5 crore, he said. The road from Pandeshwar to Mangala Devi will be concretised under the government policy ‘Tender Sure’. There will be no different, but will get one feet depth which will be helpful for repair works.
MCC has got new superintendent engineer and soon he will submit a proposal, he said. DKWJU president P B Harish Rai welcomed the guest and gathering. Press Club secretary Srinivas Indaje proposed vote of thanks.
