Mangalore: The KPCC new president, Dr. G. Parameshwara (Tumkur) arrived in the port city to a tumultuous welcome from Congress workers all over the coastal areas and was taken in a grand procession from Jyothi Circle on Dr. Shivarama Karanth road to the Town Hall, amidst vehicular traffic chaos, crackers bursts and cultural costume dances on the street on Hampankatta. It is the first ever visit to DK by KPCC Chief after he was picked by AICC bosses in Delhi to reform state Congress. The office bearers are not finalized and an election is going on in party circles in each state at present. DKCC Chief B. Ramanath Rai, MLA led the local Congress leaders in receiving the new state leader when he arrived from Bangalore at the airport.
The procession to the Town Hall included local arts dances and large size dolls. The Congress Seva Dal gave a salute to KPCC Chief in front of the vast Town Hall courtyard.
Dr. G. Parameshwara inaugurated the New DKCC workers’ convention in the Town Hall. Speaking on the joyous occasion, he stated that INC had a history of 125 years. The Indian constitution has bestowed equal rights on all citizens of the country. The 5 year plans designed by Congress rulers under J.L Nehru transformed India form a rural farming Country to modern industrial / services nation with 3rd largest economy in the world.
Many Congressmen had sacrificed their all for the benefit of the nation which is in 11th five year plan now (2007-12). Indira and Rajiv Gandhi carried on the progress relay baton from Pandit Nehru. All these and many more great souls must be remembered for their contributions to the country, Dr. GP added. The present BJP govt, has spoiled the progressive work done by Congress for 6 decades and should be rejected by voters, he stressed. He was garlanded and felicitated by hundreds of local Congress members.
