CITU May Day

CITU affiliate labour Unions have May Day procession and a rally at Town Hall
Socialistic or people’s spontancous revolts talking place in several countries of the world, such as Egypt, Libya and France, are due to the discomfort of labourers and poor sections of society, who are victimised by capitalistic ambitions of accumulating Wealth, at the expense of working classes and poorer masses.

The ‘Occupy Wall Street’ protests in America, and movements against ‘state bankruptcy’ in Greece, Mexico, Kazhakhstan, Portugal and South Africa, are examples of workers’ revolutions against capitalist greed.

Such an active movement is essential in India these days, to bridal unchecked capitalist tendencies that ignore labour as part of economy, observed B. Madhava of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on May Day, in a city gathering of workers
.
A few (3) crore labouress had participated in a nationwide strike recently, of all India Trade Unions, demanding their basic rights.

He criticised the state cabinet decision, to raise working hours of labourers from 8 to 10, while providing ‘bail-out’ packages for losing banks and private companies during a global recession, which was an offspring of capitalism.

The May Day was arranged in Town Hall, with a rally from Ambedkar Circle, Balmatta.
