Suratkal : Coming from Maharashtra, a dredger boat “Blue Inn” had anchored in Arabian sea for dredging to be done in sea, for deep sea laying pipeline for waste materials to be released from MSEZ industrial units into sea waters. But on Monday evening, the dredgers had to face protesting fishermen who surrounded the boat, which thereafter sped away.
The boat had come on contract to lay large pipes into the sea, but protesting fishermen in country boats rushed to the spot of anchor to deter the dredging work.
The fishermen and local citizens had earlier held meetings to decide upon an agitation against MSEZ members. The boat workers were asked by local fishermen for authorised documents, but the workers did not possess them and told the protesters that they come only to carry out work given by the contractors.
The local people told the dredging boatmen to vacate the place and go cut of state borders. The dredgers only a greed to temporarily leave the area.
Local citizens from several villages like Mukka, Guddkoppa Suratkal areas, besides Mogaveera Sangha officials, participated in the successful protest. S.Shobhendra and Shekhar Karkera among others, were present.
