Mangaluru: Karnataka State Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene staged protest demanding scientific price to arecanut, coconut and rubber, on Tuesday in front of DC office.
Addressing the protestors Hasiru Sene state Vice-President G T Ramaswamy said that farmers are not getting proper payment for their crops. Agents are selling the same crops for higher price.
“Central government is implementing a project called as Industrial Corridor; this projrct is being implemented at the cost of thousands of acres of agricultural land. Once a farmers losses his land, he will never get it back again. None of the political parties are backing the protests of farmers,” he said.
Hasiru Sene district President Ravikiran Punacha said that arecanut, coconut and rubber are the prime crops of Dakshina Kannada district. From past two years farmers are facing secere problems regarding the drastic decrease in price.
“The government is not even releasing scientific relief money. Though most of the products are being cultivated here in India only, the government is importing all of them from foreign countries. We urge the government to save the areca, coco and rubber farmers and to fix a scientific support price for these crops,” he added.
Hassan district Vice-President Rudresh Gowda, Suresh Bhat, Yadav Shetty, Roopesh Rai, Vinod Padekallu and others were present.
