Mangalore : A proposal of Rs 567 crore to extend the Mangalore fisheries port has been submitted to the centre through the Fisheries Coastal Engineering Institute, said Krishna Palemar, District-in-charge Minister.
In a press release, Palemar, also stated that the city’s fisheries port requires extra infrastructure of shelter for an increasing boats. The jetty at present is 603m long and only 1,500 boats can be anchored and additional boats cannot be accommodated.
Hence, it must be extended by another 502m towards the south and an additional 579m needs to be constructed at Bengre and the work will start immediately after receiving the approval from the central government.
The project also includes work such as dredging, levelling, revetment construction, traffic zone, fish market, restroom, ship repair shop, gear shed, net mending shed, radio communication, tower, RCC sloping, restaurant, RCC box bridge, rainwater harvesting, and so on, said the minister.
