Mangalore: Confusion  prevailed at the fish market near State Bank in Mangalore on December 3, Monday when a team of officials including the outgoing DC Dr Channappa Gowda arrived  in order to create an awareness among the fisher women on the need to shun plastic bags and go in for cloth bags.

However, the official team met with stiff resistance from the fisherwomen who were unhappy with the plastic ban as it is difficult to pack fish in any bag other than plastic bags. They first entered into an altercation and then burnt the cloth bags offered to them as a mark of protest.
