Mangalore : Fr Pius Thomas D’Souza of Agrar in Bantwal has been appointed as the new Bishop of Ajmer (Rajasthan) by Pope Benedict XVI. Earlier, he was ordained priest for the diocese of Lucknow on March 28, 1982. The Diocese of Ajmer (1913), is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Agra.
He is a doctorate degree holder in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. Fr Pius Thomas D’Souza succeeds Ignatius Menezes, who was Bishop since 1979.
Dr Ignatius – former bishop of Ajmer, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore and Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi also hail from Agrar.
