Mangalore, November 30: Golden girl Ashwini Akkunje, the gold medalist at the Asian Games in China and Commonwealth Games in Delhi, who represented India, was given a rousing welcome at Mangalore Airport in Bajpe November 30, Tuesday.
Speaking after arriving at the air port Ashwini Akkunji said it was a dream come true in past two months and it is hard to believe that I have achieved what I thought for.
I have got the worth for my effort and practice I was devoted for, in these two games. Further I will try to achieve medal in Olympics at 2011-12.
Many media have reported that, Government has not rendered its support, but it’s totally false, government has tried to give its best facilities and help they could provide to an athlete, she said.
She said that it was a memorable event in Asian Games campaign with two gold medals – 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay.
Her parents Chidananda Shetty and Yashoda Shetty, M R Vasudeva, Mangalore Airport Director, Moideen Bawa, Congress leader and others welcomed gold medalist.
