Mangalore: the SCDCC Bank of Mangalore under the steward ship of M.N. Rajendra Kumar (Jain), honored the well known disabled swimmer of Udupi District, Gopal Kharvi, on Friday afternoon at the Bank premises.
Kharvi received Rs.50,000 from SCDCC bank and Rs. 25000 from Navodaya Charitable Trust (NCT), has his reword for setting up a world record in swimming the distance of 3 km from Malpe beach to St. Mery’s island in 2 hours 43 minutes , across the Arabian sea in 2012.
Kharvi, in his speech told the audience that he had spent Rs.12,00,000 to perform the World Record feat, while he received only Rs.4,00,000 from donors and had a loan of Rs. 8 lacks as a world class swimmer without further help from the state Govt. or any other body.
Rajendra Kumar SCDCC Bank Chief praised Kharvi’s various achievement in swimming. SCDCC Bank Vice-President Vinay Kumar Soorinje, Administrative Director Gopal Krishna Bhatt, Directors Vadhiraj Shetty and others were present.
