Puttur : Former CM DV Sadananda Gowda has said that the government was thinking in terms of introducing insurance and medical facilities for people associated with the traditional sport of Kambala.
Speaking at a function organised during the Vijaya Vikrama Jodukere Kambala held here on March 16, Saturday, the former CM said the government was committed to encourage the traditional sport and had already earmarked Rs one crore at the rate of Rs 3 lakh for every kambala.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP who also spoke on the occasion, stressed the need for greater encouragement to Kambala.
Ashok Kumar Rai, Kambala Committee President, MN Rajendra Kumar, SCDCC Bank Chairman, Sanjeeva Matandoor, CAMPCO Director, Umesh Shenoy, Honorary President of Kambala Samithi, IGP Pratap Reddy and family and several others were present.
A total of 127 pairs of buffaloes took part in the Kambala.
