Mangalore : The pre-monsoon rains, which lashed in parts of Karnataka, gave a climate of monsoon-like conditions in coastal Karnataka.
The meteorological department had also issued heavy rainfall warning to the districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Shimoga and Chikmagalur and Hassan for the next 48 hours, due to the depression in Arabian Sea.
The department had also suggested the deputy commissioners of all districts to remain alert and take precautionary measures in vulnerable areas.
They have also advised the DCs to keep control rooms fully prepared and DCs to keep control rooms fully operations. Fishermen were warned to stay away from the sea. The rescue and relief teams were kept on standby for emergency duties too.
B Puttanna, director of India Meteorological Department’s Bangalore said that heavy rainfall will continue till Saturday and will lower on Sunday.
The department predicts rain and thundershowers in the next three days for coastal Karnataka.
Reportedly, state from May 2 to May 8 recorded surplus rainfall of 91%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 13.9mm in south-interior, north-interior, Malnad and coastal parts, state recorded rainfall of 26.6mm.
