Mangaluru : After the complaint lodged by Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V against the Vedike’s Organising Secretary Jagadish Karanth, The Hindu Jagarana Vedike has demanded the withdrawal of complaint.
Speaking to reporters on November 25, Thursday, Radhakrishna Adyanthaya, Regional Executive Committee Member of the Vedike, said the case against Karanth was a bid to suppress the voice of those who are fighting against the illegal quarrying around the Karinja temple.
He said quarrying was being done unlawfully around the temple area since 2007 and that repeated appeal to the elected representatives as well as officials have yielded no result. It was in this backdrop an awareness meet was held on November 21, he added.
Karanth in his address at the meeting had set December 21 as the deadline for the administration to suspend illegal quarrying in Karinja area. “If the demand is not heeded, thousands will march to the DC office and hold him by his collar,” Karanth had reportedly warned.
