Mangaluru: Tension prevailed near theKadri Sri Manjunatha Temple on Saturday after leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other organizations submitted a memorandum, seeking intervention of the endowment department following a complaint against the use of loudspeakers.
Residents of an apartment complex near the temple submitted a memorandum to Mangaluru corporation and the endowment department against the use of loudspeakers in the temple, which has a history of over 900 years.
The residents had also complained to the temple authorities about noise on various occasions, including during Yakshagana performances. In a memorandum submitted on August 22, 2016, residents had said those residing on the upper floors suffered due to noise.
“Children, students, aged people and women face health issues like blood pressure, sleeplessness and migraine due to the noise,” Blanny D’Souza wrote on behalf of residents and requested the authorities to reduce the noise level. D’Souza submitted a memo to the city corporation on December 4, seeking direction to reduce noise. On Saturday, leaders of Hindu outfits gathered near the temple, demanding the authorities allow the use of loudspeakers.
