Chennai: A legal petition made to Madras High Court by Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram, to cancel the election petition of his rival in Shivaganga constituency of Tamilnadu, AIADMK’s candidate R.S.RajaKannappan seeking justice in 2009 general elections(June 25), was thrown out by HC Today(Aug.5).
Kannappan was defeated by only 3354 votes in the contest then. The defeated candidate had put up his vote that the election was malignant, as PC was alleged to have issued threats to votes going against him. The election was on a small margin of votes under corrupt counting and illegal voting procedure, vitiating the result, Kannappan had argued.
CM Jayalalithaa on her return to power went to Delhi and told PM that his Home Minister had practiced deception to win his election and that he should resign now.
The Madras High Court observed that Kannappan’s writ petition was faulty, but could not be rejected.
