Mangalore : The tri-angular contest expected from Mangalore North (Surathkal) between Krishna Palemar of BJP, BA Moideen Bava of Congress and Ramachandra Baikampady of KJP. JD(S) candidate Gulaam Mohammed is having some influence in the constituency in which total of 9 candidates are in a fray. The other candidates are Abubaker from SDPI, Supreeth Kumar Poojary from NCP, Mahabala Shetty, Maxi Pinto and Vinaya Achari as Independents.
The main contest seems to be between Krishna Palemar of BJP and Moideen Bava from Congress. Even though anti incumbent factor and infighting in BJP effected over all poll prospectus of BJP in the state, Palemar’s popularity in Mangalore North remained to be intact. Some opposition parties tried to tarnish is image on moral grounds but people seems to ignore it. Soft spoken and hard working Mr. Palemar’s chance of winning Surathkal Constituency depended upon his ability to garner considerable Muslim votes and neutralize Ramachandra Baikampady of KJP. He has been active in his constituency through out his tenure as minister and his down to earth approach won him mass popularity.
Congress candidate BA .Moideen Bava is a businessman and a philanthropist. A well known figure in Mangalore, his ability to secure Congress nomination for Mangalore North constituency in-spite of loosing last election is itself a proof that he is highly influential in Congress highrachy. His door to door campaign and ability to reach all caste and communities is his trumpcard along with his credential as generous donor. He is capable of winning the May 5th election if he can divide BJP votes in his favor.
Ramachandra Baikampady from KJP is the another candidate to watch in Mangalore North. It will be decisive if Mogaveera votes goes in favor of Baikampady. He has done good work for the community like securing low interest loans to large number of fisher women for very low bank interest improved facility for fish markets, deep freezers and brought profitability to fish federations. He will play a decisive role in the future of BJP poll prospects as KJP candidate.
