Mangalore: The second edition of the Jodukere Kambala in honor of the late Jayagangadhara Shetty was held on the banks of River Nethravathi in Jeppinamogaru on March 10 Saturday.
The Kambala was organised by Jaya Vijaya Jodukere Kambala Committee
Before the race the participating buffaloes were given a bath and beautifully decorated.
Brahma Shri Vedamurthy Vittaldas Tantri of Derebail offered puja to the slush field and inaugurated the event.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Jayagangadhar was a popular social worker who encouraged Kambalas and organized a number of cultural events when he was alive hence this Kambala is being held in his honour, he said.
Dr. Harish Kumar, the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) commissioner, said the interest of some people in the rural sports like Kambala has brought life to the sports again.
Ramanath Hegde, the head of the Mangaladevi Temple Management Committe; Ganesh Shetty, the proprietor of Foodlands; Neelakanta Manjunath Bhandary Moodushedde, the head of the managing committee of Umamaheshwari Temple, Shankar Palemar of Vaishanavi Temple; and many others were also present.
