Bangalore: The JD(S) Muslim convention held at Bangalore recently in the presence of party supremo Deve Gowda and State JD(S) Chief HD Kumaraswamy is seen as a preparatory ground of the JD(S) for the forthcoming assembly elections.
The JD(S) has decided to appease the minority vote bank well before other parties chose to do so. In fact, this huge convention attracted over two lakh Muslims. Apart from this convention, it is reported that the JD(S) was eyeing the displeased ministers of the BJP who have not been able to secure a cabinet berth.
Even Kumaraswamy himself admitted that he was in touch with all the unhappy BJP MLAs, but at the same time, said it was normal for him to do so.
It has been reported that MLA Belur Gopalkrishna who has already openly aired his dissent met the JD(S) leader at his residence and had a closed door meeting lasting for over an hour. Though Belur claimed this to be a courtesy call, there are speculations galore.
Here it is worth mentioning that Kumaraswamy is also learnt to be in touch with Halady Srinivas Shetty, MLA of Kundapur who has already quit and even the Coastal Development Authority Chairman Nagaraj Shetty. This would be just an attempt by HDK to strengthen his party base in the coastal district where the party is struggling to retain its existence. It is learnt, Kumaraswamy has even contacted Sullia MLA Angara who too is unhappy for not getting ministership despite being a four time MLA.
