Bangalore : In its desperation to find suitable candidates for the Karnataka Assembly polls, the BJP roped in Dattatreya Chandrashekhar Patil Revoor of the JD(S) Tuesday morning and named him the party’s nominee for the Gulbarga Dakshin seat by evening.
The Central Election Committee of the BJP, which met here on Tuesday, finalised the names for 36 constituencies.
The party has so far released the names of 176 candidates, 140 of them in the first list that was released last week.
The party has decided to put up Lok Sabha member from Bangalore South P C Mohan from the Gandhinagar Assembly constituency of Bangalore.
V Somanna, who is known to owe his allegiance to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa but has refrained from joining the party floated by him, has been fielded from the Vijaynagar assembly constituency of Bangalore. A strong Lingayat leader, Somanna had unsuccessfully tried to get into the Congress earlier.
The BJP has brought in a new face, S H Manjunath, to take on Yeddyurappa from his traditional Shikaripura seat.
The party has kept on hold the names of three controversial candidates — Katta Subramanya Naidu (Hebbal), S N Krishnaiah Shetty (Malur) and Y Sampangi (Kolar Gold fields) — who are members of the outgoing assembly. Naidu and Shetty, former ministers, have been chargesheeted in court cases.
