Bengaluru: The Congress MLAs in state Assembly wore black bands round their arms, inside legislature on Wednesday, demanding resignation of speaker K.G. Bopaiah, who was once criticised by Supreme Court bench as biased, in the issue of disqualifying 5 independent MLAs turned ministers from legislature.
The Congress members asked Bopaiah to resign honourably. Their leader Siddaramaiah threatened to carry his fight to the end. The Congress MLAs even made arrangements to place a motion of no-confidence against the elected speaker, to force him to resign. But the JD-S members backed out of such a promise (of joining them) and independents did not help either.
CM DVS Gowda rejected the possible event, as opposition parties remained mutually divided and made only allegations that were baseless, according to a happy Gowda.
