Mangalore: There is more than a month to go, as the Kannada Sahitya Parishat district unit president will be chosen only on April 29, at the local Taluk Tahsildar’s office used as a vote booth.
The outgoing president since 10 years is Pradeep K. Kalkura, who has a foundation in his name, and is an advertiser by profession.
There are 1932 voters in DK district only. The list of such voters has been finalised on March14, according to returning officer Ravichandra Nayak, speaking to pressmen on Saturday(March 17).
A voter has to be a member of KSP for continuous 3 years earlier on, to be eligible to vote on April 29, he informed.
Mangalore taluk has the highest number of voters 876, Belthangady T. has 318, Bantwal 279, Sullia 237 and lastly, Puttur has 222, recognized voters, he stated.
The election timetable has come into force from February 2, 2012. There are two groups one led by HariKrishna Punarooru(former president of KsP), which has put up Sarvottama Kanchan, and the other, led by Pradeep K. Kalkura himself, which has not named anyone.
Meetings may be organised to seek votes, but only for Kannada protection, and not on personal basis of caste or creed, Nayak explained.
