Mangalore: A public awareness Torch lights procession at night was organized by DYFI youths to commemorate 80th Anniversary of the execution of freedom fighter and martyr Bhagat Singh in city last night.
75 men and women, with some wearing masks of the martyrs (Sukh Dev and Rajguru included) took out a march from DC office at 7pm on March 21, and converged at Clock tower circle near University College. Speakers lashed out at corrupt and imperialist powers and policies of BJP rulers in state and Congress rulers at the Centre. They raised victory slogans for martyrs of Punjab.
Munir Katipalla, District (DYFI) chief, speaking on the occasion stated that Bhagat Singh did not hesitate to sacrifice his life against colonial imperialism. But these days, imperial and communal heralds were putting out the patriotic martyrs as their own leader which is regrettable.
When Bhagat Singh was hanged in Lahore Jail 80 years ago, the war cry of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ (Victory to Revolution) had echoed all over the British India. There was no change in the ground situation in 8 decades, Katipalla pointed out, as problems faced then continued even now. His own slogan was not to salute Motherland or hail victory to Mother India, unless corruption and colonial forces are weeded out of public life now. But they are going strong, he declared.
Lala Bhagat Singh was hanged on 23rd March, 1931 by the British regime at his young age of 23. The revolutionary activities and martyrdom continue to inspire today those whop suffer secondary citizenship and face vortex of corruption circles.
