Udupi: The led light fishing and bull trawling will nearly come to an end from the August this year.
The local fishermen have learnt on the dangers of these two practices which were being practiced.
The fishermen community, both in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, has come together to put an end to both the practices from August.
The issue was discussed at a recent meeting held by fisheries minister Pramod Madhwaraj in Udupi.
It has been learnt that the LED light fishing damages the marine life and sometimes also killing baby fishes.
The Union government has banned the use of LED lights while fishing in all coastal areas in the country.
Concerned with the ban not being implemented in Karnataka’s coastal waters, the Nadadoni Fishermen Association of Uttara Kannada had written to the ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare, to instruct the district administrations of Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada to strictly enforce the ban on LED fishing and bull trawling.
