Bangalore: There is something to cheer about for frequent train travelers on the Mangalore- Bangalore route. The Indian Railways has finally planned to extend the night train between Bangalore and Mangalore upto Karwar.
Once the 24 bogie slip train arrives in Mangalore from Bangalore, it will then leave for Karwar with 12 bogies. Nearly 4000 passengers can travel at a time in this train.
A test was also conducted in this regard at Shiradi Ghat in the presence of the railway research and development team from Lucknow. It was only after the 24 bogie train ran successfully on Shiradi Ghat four times, that the green signal was given for the proposal.
If the night train between Bangalore to Mangalore was started in 2007, in 2010, the same was extended to Kannur despite the vehement demand to extend the train to Karwar .
It may be recalled here that even the Udupi-Chikmagalur MP has been making a lot of efforts in getting permission for the extension of train services.
