Mangalore : Society is being disturbed with unwanted reasons in the name of religion. Christ took birth to spread peace and the message of Christ of peace and brotherhood is apt and relevant, said Diocese of Mangalore Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza giving his Christmas message on Tuesday.
He said that a mass prayer on midnight of December 24 marks the celebration of birth of Jesus across the world and Christmas is a festival which is celebrated by all people irrespective of caste, creed and other differences.
He informed that the Mangalore diocese will also extend to the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod district. There are large number of priests and sisters from 158 churches of Mangalore diocese and other churches and around 350 social and medical colleges including Fr Muller’s Medical College, St Joseph Engineering College and first grade colleges in Catholic Educational Federation. There are around four lakh catholic Christians residing in coastal region with communal harmony, he added.
He called upon them to work in harmony with each other towards their goal and take India on path of progress and development.
Mangalore Diocese chancellor Henry Sequiera, PRO William Menezes, Marcel Monteiro, Fr Onil D’Souza and others were present.
