Mangalore: A Rs 100 crore ambitious project of having a modern state of the art building to replace the existing old Central Market building, has remained in the cold storage for the past two years, with no concerted effort put in to execute the project. The absence of determination and will power on the part of the authorities in executing this project is crystal clear.
The plan had been prepared in 2010 itself and the project was to have a full-fledged fish, mutton and vegetable market. Even the blue print was ready and a model of the building had also been placed at the DC office for public viewing. It was even said that t his would be a five floored building in a two acre land with the basement to be used as a parking slot.
Though the then DC Ponnuraj had evinced interest in implementing this project, nothing much has happened after his transfer. It is learnt, efforts are on to implement this project on a Private Public Participation Model. The file concerned would be reviewed and efforts would be made to initiate the project, says former minister Krishna Palemar.
