Mangaluru: Mangaluru based Derik’s chess school talent and Mangaluru’s emerging chess prodigy 6 year old Shriyana Mallya has won Gold medal in the under 7 girls category in national schools chess championship held at Nagpur from January 5 to 7 2017.
She had scored 8 points in 9 rounds and claimed the gold with a clear point lead. By this, she is qualified to represent India in the World and Asian school chess championship to be held at Romania and China. Shriyana Mallya is studying in 1st standard at Lourdes Central School in the city. She is daughter of Sandeep and Nandini Mallya of Mangaluru.
In 2016 playing her first under 7 girls chess championship in Mandya, Shriyana delivered strong performance to bag runner up position and had qualified for nationals. In nationals she finished with credible 14th position.
Again playing state school championship of 2017 edition, she proved too strong for her group by clinching the title with unbeaten performance. Within very short time, proving herself at nationals again Shriyana has very bright prospects of bringing international medals.
