Mangaluru : After having not conducted kambala at Pilikula since 5 years, the Dakshina Kannada district administration is now showing signs of restarting the event and has decided to organize it in the month of January / February. This is the only kambala event which is being conducted on behalf og the government.
The urge to conduct the kambala was expressed during a meeting held at DC office under the leadership of minister Kota Srinivas Poojary. MLA’s U T Khader, Rakesh Naik and Umanath Kotian also directed the officials to organize the event successfully
Speaking at the meeting, DC Sindhu B Roopesh pointed that it was necessary to collect proper information from the government to conduct kambala without any legal problems. She also informed that a letter will be written to the government to gather proper information and a proposal for a grant for the event will also be submitted.
If kambala is conducted at Pilikula, buffaloes couple will arrive for the event from DK, Udupi and Kasaragod as well. The district administration will have to look after all the expenses of the event including the leveling of the fields and kambala championship.
The last kambala held at Pilikula was in 2014 under the title “Netravati – Phalguni Jodukere Kambala”. Later, since there was a case booked against the conduction of the event in the court, the district administration backtracked from organizing the event. Last year, the previous DC Sasikanth Senthil had shown the urge to conduct Kambala and had conducted a survey for the same under the leadership of the district administration, district kambala committee and Pilikula.
