Mangalore : Mahila Sanghagala Jala, Mangalore organized a Procession and women’s convention to mark International Women’s Day procession from Jyothi Circle to Town Hall on March 3, Thursday.
Shailaja Bhat, president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat presided over the event.
Delivering the introductory speech, Rita Naronha, convener of Mahila Sanghagala Jala, Mangalore said the women must know the law of right to information. At present there are many men in various organizations who are willing to join hands with the women in their struggle.
She also said that, today women are being tortured and burnt for dowry. Women’s may come from various caste or religion but their pain do not have any caste, religion or groups. Hence all must join hands to bring these incidents an end.
Women must try to find solution for big and small problems through this Mahila Sanghagala Jala, she said.
Chief guest Madhu Bhushan from Vimochana, Bangalore said that, today the marriage has become more of prison than relation. The women’s are confronting challenges to break the prison.
Marriage is a societal institution. There is discrimination and violence seen directly in the present marriage system.
She also urged the parents to not get married the girls forcefully. Since it will be not a security for them but it will be the reformatory.
In every religion there are the fundamentalists and they will decide the framework of women. Globalization gives an opportunity to women, but on other hand it snatches the chance from them to prove their self.
The programme was inaugurated in a unique way where the women of various ages staring from the small girl child to old women were tied in a relation of Jala with banner.
Dr Jacintha D’Souza, Principal of Roshni Nilaya, Merlyn, Shyamala and others were present on the dais.
Gayathri K of Roshni Nilaya read out the ratio of women atrocities in the district.
