Mangalore : The BJP was defeated in Bellary rural by-poll and then lost a Mayoral election by a whisker on March 7, when Mysore Divisional Commissioner, M.V. Jayanthi, Contrived to declare Gulzar Banu Shamsuddin a mother of ten in her 40s, as the new Mayor for an year of the Mangalore City Corporation by default of BJP candidate who did not file a caste corticated in a prescribed format in 10 minutes.
BJP’s double fault in this Tennis game was that there was no dummy to the Kumbara (caste) woman, Roopa D. Bangera backed by SriKar Prabhu and M. Yogish Bhat when other better qualified women Corporators were available Shantha and Surekha, while there was nothing special about Roopa D. Bangera.
The entire election Programme was held in the presence of DC. Dr. N.S. Channappa Gowda and MCC Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar, and several other bureaucrats and BJP MLA/MPs.
When some of these MCC officials walked out of the hall, along with a group dissatisfied and disgraced BJP corporators Mariamma Thomas (an independent) asked if these bureaucrats had joined BJP lately to walk out with them.
The outgoing Mayor did not officially transfer his powers and role to the new Mayor the first Muslim Mayoress in 25 years of MCC No election or no confidence motion was allowed for BJP.
In a house of 60 corporation 35 are BJP and one more supporting them while Congress had only 21. A by-poll in MCC ward (due to resignation) went against BJP, recently.
4 standing committee elections and a deputy Mayor (Amithkala) post were won by BJP but Mayor’s post eluded them, which is a pointer to next MCC elections in which BJP could be a loser if it indulges in emotional games of blame, shock and sorrow even vengeance.
The BJP corporations have to live with Gulzar Banu Sheikhand maintain dignity in MCC without fresh quarrels.
The BJP corporations soon after the Standing Committees elections, walked out unceremoniously. Why?
Actually they had behaved badly. Their Mayoral Candidates was wrong and tainted and Congress lady Corporation from Katipalla was fortunate from Suratkal Krishnapura Ward no.5, to win.
Krishna Palemar’s hand in this game cannot be denied though he was not around. He had chosen 4 Mayors earlier but this SriKar Prabhu behaved like a punter backing the wrong horse Prabhu has been punched by Palemar on the face, also of K. Monappa Bhandary, who backed (Kadri word) Roopa.
N. Yogish Bhat could not contain himself and walked ahead of others.
It was a BJP’s black day and a fiasco with a women DC from Mysore as the R.O.
