Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) vacated illegal petty shops and street vendors on footpaths at Hampankatta and Central Market in the city on Wednesday morning.
However, some of the vendors objected to the MCC officials demolishing their shops.
Sources say that MCC had not served notices to the vendors regarding vacating the area instead had informed the public through the media.
The measure was aimed to clear the footpath for the smooth movement of pedestrians.
MCC is planning to solve traffic issues in the city, and this is the first step in the plan. In the coming days, officials will shut all footpath businesses in the city,” official said.
