Mangaluru: The court sentenced a woman and her son to life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 5,000 for allegedly murdering the man’s wife five years ago. However, they would have to undergo three additional months of imprisonment if they failed to pay the penalty.
Raveesh (43) and his mother Parvathi (60) from Bantwal had often doubted Raveesh’s wife, Saraswati’s character and the couple had regular fights. It is said that on February 17, 2011 a similar quarrel ensued and it culminated in Saraswati’s murder by the mother and son. Reports stated that Saraswati sustained 18 stabs on her body.
Soon after, Saraswati’s father, Poovappa Nayak field a complaint and the duo was arrested the same night. The couple’s four-year-old son (at the time of the murder) proved to be the key eye witness to the entire incident.
The verdict was pronounced after questioning 23 witnesses in the case. The court has also recommended a compensation for the child.
