Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requesting increased investment during the Global Investors Meet for Coastal Karnataka, especially Mangaluru, to harness regional potential.
He stated that Coastal Karnataka, known for its highly skilled workforce, premier educational institutions, and thriving entrepreneurial spirit, presents a unique opportunity for sustainable industrial growth. With its strategic location, excellent port connectivity, and robust infrastructure, the region is well-suited to attract industries in sectors such as R&D, GCSs-IT and ITES, Fintech, Renewable Energy, marine biotechnology, tourism, and food processing.
However, despite its strengths, the region faces several challenges, including youth unemployment, migration of skilled talent, and limited large-scale industrial investments.
To fully capitalise on the untapped potential of Coastal Karnataka, the MP requested the CM’s support in facilitating increased investments in establishing an IT and startup hub. Investments in GCs and R&D sections would hugely benefit from the large talent pool, leveraging the talent from institutions to boost entrepreneurship and prevent brain drain.
Setting up a technological innovation park in Mangaluru from the govt would motivate investors and institutions to set foot in Mangaluru, he said.
He stressed projects aimed at enhancing New Mangalore Port and developing an integrated coastal economic zone to attract global trade and manufacturing industries, encouraging investments in sustainable fisheries, marine research, and ocean-based industries. He also urged special investments in eco-tourism, wellness retreats, and adventure tourism.
