Mangaluru :  A member of Karnataka State Haj Committee was attacked by a hammer on his head at Asaigoli near Konaje on Saturday.

Muslim priest Hanif Nizami, is reported to be assaulted for campaigning in favour of BJP candidates in the Manjanady gram panchayat limits. It is alleged that the attack was planned by Congress worker Karim.

Hanif Nizami has been campaigning in favour of BJP candidates in Uppala, Manjeshwar, Paivalike and Manjanady. The pictures in this connection had gone viral on social media.

It is gathered, Hanif Nizami had held a meeting of religious priests under the banner of BJP minority unit a few years ago. The Muslim leaders who were anguished by it had expelled him from his job.

After the attack, Nizami was admitted to the Kanachur Hospital in Deralakatte.

A case has been registered in the Konaje police station.
