Mysore: The poll code of conduct has come into force with the Election Commission of India announcing the Lok Sabha Poll schedule yesterday.
Following the announcement, brisk activities have commenced in all political parties. Also, the transfer of officials who have completed 3 years in service at the same place and those serving in their home district, has begun.
With the poll code in force, the launching of various works and schemes across the Lok Sabha constituency, have come to a stand still.
Meanwhile, the district administration has prepared the electoral rolls, according to which there are 16,73,428 voters in Mysore-Kodagu LS constituency with 8,44,767 and 8,32,661 women voters. The Mysore-Kodagu LS seat comprises of eight assembly segments — Chamaraja, Krishnaraja, Narasimharaja and Chamundeshwari in the city, Hunsur and Periyapatna in the district and Madikeri and Virajpet in Kodagu district.
While the Chamundeshwari assembly segment has the maximum number of voters- 2,47,163; Periyapatna assembly segment has the least number of voters 1,66,077.
The Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha Constituency has 1,979 polling booths in all, with the district administration taking measures to set up 108 more polling booths in Chamundeshwari assembly segment, which has the highest number of voters among all the assembly segments falling under the constituency.
With the poll code coming into force with immediate effect following the announcement of poll schedule, the district administration, based on the Election Commission’s directive, has prepared a list of more than 15 officials to be transferred out of the constituency.
It may be mentioned here, that Additional DC M.S Archana, who is a native of Mysore District, was transferred as Additional DC of Chikmagalur a couple of days ago. Shivananda Kapashi, serving as Additional DC at Dharwad has been appointed as the new Mysore ADC in her place.
Over all, it can be said that DC C. Shikha, who is also the district electoral officer, has begun preparations in right earnest for the conduct of a free and fair poll.
