Mangaluru: MP Naleen Kumar Kateel warned the state government to hold stir and call for Dakshina Kannada bundh, if the names involved in DySp Ganapati’s suicide case are not arrested.
Speaking to the media at central railway station on Friday he said that if the government can’t protect its own police officials, then how it will protect the public?
“The person’s whom DySP Ganapati mentioned in his last interview to a media channel should be arrested and brought under the clutches of law. If it is not done we will call for a district bundh, and the heat of the protest will reach the government,” he said.
“Provoking to commit suicide is also to murder. So, immediate action should be taken against those people who pressurise the government officials for their personal benefit. If it is not done, then the confidence level of police will decrease and they can’t perform their duty efficiently,” he added.
He further said that state government is forcing police officials to work for politicians. So, the police officials are depressed of it. Recently Kallappa committed suicide, now its Ganapathi.
Yesterday Mangaluru IGP office DySP Ganapahi has committed suicide in a lodge at Kodagu.
Incidentally, in a television interview to a local (Kannada) news channel aired in the afternoon in Kodagu district, Ganapathi had accused his senior officers of harassing him and putting pressure on him in various cases.
He (Ganapathi) declared that if anything happened to him, former state home minister K.J. George, Lokayuktha (ombudsman) IGP Pranab Mohanty and ADGP (intelligence) A.M. Prasad would be responsible.
A 1991 batch officer of the state cadre, Ganapathi entered the police service under sports quota. He hailed from a hamlet at Siddhappur near Madikeri.
