Mangalore : Omega Hospital, which was started with an objective of providing the best care for cardiac patients is celebrating the decennial year celebration of Omega Hospital and Charitable Trust and Heart Foundation, said Dr.K.Mukund.MD.,DM.,Chairman of the Hospital.
Speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl on May 19, Thursday, he said that In order to commemorate the 10th Anniversary celebration, a grand a public function is being arranged on Sunday the 22nd May, 2011 at 3.00 pm at the Omega Hospital Camps at Kankanady, Mangalore.
District in charge minister Krishna J Palemar will inaugurate free cardiac camp at 2 pm organized for the benefit of cardiac patients.
In the year 2001 he started the omega hospital, as the founder chairman to provide the best of facilities for Coronary Angiography, Coronary Angioplasties and Cardiac Surgeries.
Speaking about the various treatment in the hospital, he said that in the section of invasive procedures – Coronary Angiography such as Coronary Angiogram, Coronary Angioplasty, Balloon Valvuloplasty, Balloon Angioplasty Radio Ablation Procedure, Pacemaker Implantation, Device Closure for birth defect such as ASD, VSD or PDA, have been carried out numbering over 55,000 during the last 10 years. Similarly Patients needing Cardiac Surgeries such as Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery including Valve Replacement Surgery, Awake Bypass Surgery, Closed Heart Surgery, Beating Heart Surgery, Key – hole Bypass Surgery and all kinds of open heart surgeries, numbering our 5,000 have been carried out by Dr.A.G.Jayakrishnan. MS,FRCSI, FRCS (CTh), during this period.
Over 3000 medical check camps were conducted in different places including some of the remotest areas of Kerala & Karnataka in order to enable the needy patients to avail the facility of the hospital at concessional rates.
During 2006 the most latest non invasive procedure such as MDCT Angiogram was started in our sister concern, namely, Mangalore Heart Scan Foundation, Bendoor, Mangalore. The advantages of this facility is that there is no admission required, normally insisted in the hospital. Scanning is also done for Head and other parts of the body at this Facility.
Omega Hospital was selected by Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, to train medical graduate to undergo 2 years post graduate diploma in clinical cardiology. The programme aims at training young MBBS doctors to learn and practice non invasive procedures such as ECG, TMT and Echocardiography which enables them to examine and diagnose early stages of cardiac problems of the patients, some of them living in remotest regions of our country. So far 16 doctors who were qualified have been awarded with diploma and they are practicing successfully, a few in remote regions. 3 doctors who have recently passed out will be confired their diploma during the convocation to be held on May 22nd 2011 at the hospital premises, he informed.
Dr.A.G.Jayakrishnan, MS,FRCSI, FRCS (CTh), Cardio thoracic surgeon said that, during 2008 for the benefit of very senior citizens free medical treatment was extended including with domiciliary visits.
Stem cell therapy centre was also started in 2006. Several cases have been successfully carried out and the patients have obtained desired improvements.
Cardiac rehabilitation centre with latest physiotherapy facility was started in 2010. All the cardiac patients after cardiac procedures or cardiac surgeries go through this centre with right learning before their discharge from the hospital.
In order to overcome the shortage of trained cardiac nurses, omega hospital started in 2010 one year diploma in cardiac nursing course for those GNM or B.sc nursing passed nurses. 20 students are undergoing full time planned programme in the hospital, he added.
The Hospital is managed professionally qualified and experienced medical specialists of different specialties supported by, round the clock qualified and dedicated nursing and paramedical staff.
Mr.S.L.Bharadvaj, Administrator said that, on the occasion, a souvenir containing the achievements of the Hospital, patients opinions, articles on medical care – dos and don’ts, balanced diet and various topics of interest such as physical exercises etc which will be a useful and handy reference book for any family, will be released on this occasion.
