Mangalore : In a major development, Kadri police have seized bundles of nearly one lakh pamphlets having writings against Mangalore South Congress candidate JR Lobo. The pamphlets were being transported in a Tavera vehicle (KA 19C 5279). It was intercepted near Bejai museum and Satish Prabhu, District BJP General Secretary and the vehicle driver were arrested.
It is learnt, the pamphlets were supposed to be distributed to electorate and were printed in the name of Nagarika Hitakshana Samiti head Hanumanth Kamath.
Reports said the Kadri police let Satish Prabhu go even before the returning officer reached the police station.
Meanwhile, there was tension outside the Kadri police when BJP as well as Congress workers gathered in large numbers. Additional police forces were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
A case has been filed in Kadri police station by the Congress candidate JR Lobo. Meanwhile, Congress leader Mohan Prabhu alleged that the Kadri cops were treating BJP leaders and workers as their guest and took exception for letting off Satish Prabhu even before the case was handed over to election officer.
