Mangalore : Under the auspices of ‘Jnanamrita’ of Mangalore, Yakshagana Prasanga 5 written by Dr. D.S. Pachanady was released and Bhaskar Rai Kukkwally, Tulu Academy member, introduced the book to the gathering. The function was arranged by Mangalore Kannada and Culture department at Town Hall on Friday evening. Kumble Sunder Rao, Chairman of State Yakshagana Bayalata Academy presided.
Inaugurating the event A.V. Navada of Humpi Kannada University, told the audience that Yakshagana is now taken in educational form. Yakshagana has spread all over undivided D.K dt. more than any where else. This folk art must conduct campaigns of victory all over the West Coast, Yakshagana could be a subject taught in classes, with immense possibilities of developing its contents of music, dance, dialogues, acting and foot work, as also gorgeous costumes made attractive by headwears worn by men and women.
Dr. N. Narayana Shetty, Academy member, Dr. Mohana Kuntaru, Humpi University publicity dept, director, Shivananda Karkera, Mangalore Gokarnanatha Co-op Bank Chief, Krishna Hebbar, Admin. Trustee, Kulai Vishnumurthy Temple, Prakash Kotian, Chairman, Pyamid Educational Institute and Sharath Kumar Kadri, Director, Havyasi Balaga in Mangalore, were guests of honour on the occasion.
At the Book release session, Pundikai Krishna Bhat, yakshagana accompaniment artist, was honoured. Kavoor Keshava was remembered for his lady roles in Prasanga. Kadri Navaneeth Shetty, Times of India Publications officer made the commemoration address.
Vidyadhar Kotekar of Ullal conducted the proceedings A prasanga “Veera Taranisena” by trainee artistes of Yakshagana was presented in the evening. Subsequently, veteran artistes of D.K dt. performed “Raja Dandaka” from Pachanady Prasanga with accompaniment artistes.
